Sean Kelly is originally from Windham, New Hampshire, and completed his undergraduate education at Hofstra University, earning a B.A. in Classics and a B.S. in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance. Sean’s interest in Classics began at a summer camp between his 6th and 7th grade years during which he first explored the Latin language. Since then his research interests have grown substantially, and he now focuses on the transmission and reception of the Classical literary tradition. This, combined with his operatic training, has formed an intense interest in the reception of Classical myth, especially Greek tragedy, in the formation of the operatic genre and culminated in his undergraduate thesis, which explored the relationship of ancient texts and select later vocal works, which were performed in recital. He hopes to further explore the relationship between Classics and later performance genres from both disciplinary perspectives.
In addition to Classics, Sean’s interests include soccer, hiking, camping, his record player, theater-going, and avocados.
