The lecture will take up the question of how to look at historiography as a source for historical events. It has been a trend for many years now to look at historiographical works as literature from a narratological point of view. This has brought many revealing insights into our approach and understanding of historical writings. But how can historians use these often very artificially constructed works in reconstructions of specific historical events?
Anders Holm Rasmussen is an Associate Professor (Lektor) in Ancient History at The Saxo Institute, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Besides being heavily involved with management at the Institute, he has worked especially with ancient Greek historiography and ancient Greek religion. He also has a great interest in theory of History and has taught many classes in methodology and source criticism.
