Bi-Annual Student vs. Faculty Soccer Match *Please note new date of October 8th!

-

Location: Bookstore Soccer Fields

Two figures in ancient Greek style, playing soccer, with colorful athletic shoes.

Twice every academic year, the Classics department takes the field.

In what has become a cherished eight-year tradition, graduate students and faculty join forces to take on the undergraduate students in an energetic battle for bragging rights. Dozens of player rotations keep the game moving while faculty, staff, and students cheer from the sidelines.

The tradition continues to grow, with recent matches drawing record-breaking turnouts. "Professors in the Department of Classics love spending time with their students, and playing soccer at both the start and end of the academic year is a great way to celebrate our community," shared Professor Aldo Tagliabue.

Beyond the scoreboard, the match offers a relaxed space for students to connect with peers and see their professors in a whole new light. As a recently graduated grad student put it, the match is a "fun event that brings the department together and a great indicator of the flourishing of the classics community."
