The Department of Classics is thrilled to welcome Professor Sergio Casali as a Visiting Professor for the Fall 2026 semester!
Prof. Casali—Full Professor of Latin Language and Literature at the University of Rome Tor Vergata—is widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on Latin poetry, specifically Virgil and Ovid. His leadership in the field includes serving as the President-Elect of the Vergilian Society (2026–2029) and Co-Chair of the International Ovidian Society (2026–2027).
His extensive contributions to classical scholarship have earned him prestigious global recognitions, including the 2019 Alexander G. McKay Prize for Vergilian Studies for his seminal commentary Virgilio, Eneide 2 (Edizioni della Normale), as well as the International "Vergilius" Prize from the Accademia Virgiliana di Mantova.
