Archaeological research within the department vividly brings the ancient world to life through meticulous excavation, systematic analysis, and insightful interpretation of material culture. Faculty members lead significant field projects that provide unparalleled opportunities for students to acquire hands-on experience and contribute directly to major discoveries.

Student involvement is a cornerstone of the archaeological program. The department offers fully funded summer internships in Rome and Isthmia, Greece, which include valuable archaeological field school opportunities and direct, hands-on experience in studying ancient artifacts. Undergraduate students in particular have notably participated in the Butrint Excavations, gaining practical fieldwork experience.

Our active archaeological fieldwork at significant international sites underscores that archaeological research is not solely theoretical but deeply rooted in practical, experiential learning.
