Area(s) of Interest: Greek Epigraphy; Tragedy; Classical reception studies; Philology; Intersection between material culture and literature

Valerie Liang graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a BA in Business Administration. After a career in the technology sector, she completed UCLA’s Post-baccalaureate in Classics in 2023. At UCLA, Valerie focused her research on Ancient Greece, specifically looking at the intertextuality between inscribed funerary epigrams in Ancient Greece and the literary epigrams of Hellenistic Greece. Her interest culminated in a seminar paper entitled “Still Speaking: Dialogue on the Roadside Stage in Greek Inscribed and Literary Funerary Epigram.” Valerie hopes to continue to explore Greek epigrams by exploring possible connections with Greek epigram and tragedy. Valerie’s current research interests also include the reception of the classical period in contemporary media. After completing her master’s at Notre Dame, Valerie intends to pursue a PhD and teach at the university level.

In addition to her research interests, Valerie enjoys interacting with the material culture of the ancient world by working on reproductions of ancient mosaic art.
