Ethan Peebles

Biography

Ethan is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee. He studied under Tina Shepardson and received his B.A. in Religious Studies and Classics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2025. His Honors Thesis focused on Diadochos of Photike and his place in Byzantine theological reception and modern historiography. He spent a year in Greece studying archeology and classical Greek literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His research focuses on lesser known Greek ascetic authors typically in the Philocalic and Sinaitic traditions of Christian spirituality. At Notre Dame, Ethan looks forward to further engaging these interests, especially on the religious and theological development in the Late Antique Sinai’s monastic centers with a focus on its interactions with Syriac Christianity. Outside of academia, he enjoys hiking, reading, and good Bluegrass music.
