Mary McNulty

Research Interests

Dr. McNulty’s research interests focus broadly on Greek and Roman historiography with a particular interest in the representation of women in Roman historiography. Her dissertation examined the literary portrayal of Roman women in the triumviral period in various authors including the historians Appian and Cassius Dio. In recent conference papers, she has also explored other research interests, such as the connection between gender and magic in Tacitus’ portrayal of the death of Germanicus and Seneca’s philosophical portrayal of Julia’s banishment by Augustus in his de Beneficiis, and she is working on articles related to these topics. She also has a continuing interest in Greek and Latin pedagogy and welcomes any inquiries from students interested in studying Classics.
