Julia Andrade de Barros Jorge

Biography

Júlia Andrade de Barros Jorge received her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. She graduated with majors in Classics, Theology, and Psychology (Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude), culminating in an honors thesis aiming to develop a framework with which one could approach the Book of Revelation with consideration to historical context and Lacanian subjectivity, thus focusing on its ability to create and strengthen one’s Christian identity. Júlia's experience with languages other than her native Portuguese began when she was a child, as she learned English to pursue her dreams of studying abroad, and learned how to write in Sindarin. These experiences showed her how fun and interesting it was to study a new language. She discovered her love for Archaeology while learning about the excavation projects conducted at Butrint, particularly the numismatic evidence discovered at the site, and when working on a research project about textile fragments found in Mons Claudianus and Abu Sha’ar. She aims to sharpen her skills in Greek and Latin and explore the daily lives of ancient common people through the study of material culture. In her free time, she can be found reading, sewing, or playing with her 80s band.
