M.A. in Classics

Founded in 2011, our program provides fully-funded, exceptional opportunities to enhance or gain proficiency in ancient Latin and Greek, develop innovative research agendas, and prepare strong applications for leading Ph.D. programs in Classics, archaeology, ancient history, and related fields. Our program offers three fully funded spots annually. Successful candidates receive 100% tuition remission and a full stipend for the duration of their studies.

Why pursue graduate studies in Classics at Notre Dame?

Many of our M.A. graduates made their mark by securing Ph.D. positions at prestigious institutions like Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Oxford.

Our program features:

• An interdisciplinary group of professors specializing in ancient Greek and Roman literature, Greek history, archaeology, and Roman epigraphy

• A small, vibrant cohort of students working closely with their peers and interacting with M.A. students in Early Christian Studies

• A range of service opportunities, including teaching ancient languages and working as research assistants

• Diverse courses, ranging from foundational core subjects to specialized electives

There is no other track in the Notre Dame M.A. in Classics! If you're interested in other areas of the Greco-Roman World, such as Greek Literature, Greek History, Latin Literature, Roman History, or Greek and Roman Religion, simply apply to the program and mention one or two specific fields in your Statement of Intent.
