Department of Classics Attends the Lyric Opera of Chicago

Author: Department of Classics

In early October, the Department of Classics and Classics Club of Notre Dame went to see Orphée et Eurydice, performed at the Lyric Opera of Chicago featuring the Joffrey Ballet. The trip had particular relevance for Professor Elizabeth Mazurek's class this semester on Ovid's Metamorphoses, which features the story of Orpheus and Eurydice in Book 10, as well as students who took Professor Catherine Schlegel's Vergil class last semester, where they read a different version of the story in Book 4 of the Georgics. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore Chicago and experience a famous opera, all with a Classics twist! For more photos, visit the department's Flickr page.
