Why Learning Latin Stays with You Forever

This week, PBS News Hour tackled the question: "What’s the use of learning a language that’s not spoken in conversation nor used in business transactions, and which most people consider 'dead?'" Writer Frankie Thomas shared her perspective about the benefits of learning Latin, focusing on not only the intellectual benefits but also the dramatic vocabulary— "beginner Latin teaches you to talk like a supervillain"— and timeless knowledge. In her words, Latin has "all the pleasures of a puzzle, a time capsule and a secret code."
